There was a time where our little ones’ fear of the dark would impact the nightly bedtime routine. The lights had to be kept on, bedroom doors opened, and an army of stuffed animals lined the bed for protection. Instead of going to sleep it would turn into playtime. When they finally fell asleep and I would tiptoe into their rooms to turn off the lights, except for the times that we would fall asleep first.
Nightlights, flashlights, lamps connected to automatic timers, and dimmer switches never seemed to “solve or fix” the problem.
Bedtime wasn't the only time they were afraid of the dark. They were scared to walk down a dark hallway or into a dark room alone. They would have to be escorted and have the area “checked” before they entered. Their pediatrician told me that they were completely normal and they would eventually grow out of it.
One sleep deprived night I found Bravery in a Bottle. Bravery in a Bottle is a mom own company that offers a collection of children's aroma-therapeutic sprays. Each of their 100% natural sprays has a specific goal or purpose.
- MONSTER VAPOR - RELAXING BLEND
- STORM SQUASHER - CLARITY BLEND
- COURAGE CONCOCTION - WELL BEING BLEND
- FEELING CAMPY - BUG AWAY BLEND
Monster Vapor spray contains a relaxing blend of lavender, lemon, mandarin, rosewood, and orange essential oils. The fragrance is light and not overpowering, no matter how many times it is sprayed to eliminate “monsters” or other fears. The silver spray bottle displays Winston, Monster Vapor’s mascot, the child protector. Attached to the bottle is a story card to help ease a child’s fear of monsters.
Lavender - Treats migraines, headaches, anxiety, depression, nervous tensions, and emotional stress. Induces sleep. Excellent pain reliever. Boosts immunity. Bug repellent.
Lemon - Relieves stress. Combats insomnia. Boosts the immune system.
Mandarin - Antiseptic, nervous relaxant, sedative, boosts the immune system.

Allowing my children to spray Monster Vapor empowered them and helped them conquer the fear of the dark. The over the past few weeks, Monster Vapor has been sprayed less and less. My children are falling asleep earlier and using only a nightlight. I found that the spay is very soothing and relaxing that I sometime spray it.
