Wordless Wednesday- Meeting For The First Time

This picture was found on facebook this week. It is hard not to get emotional when I look at it. It reminds me how precious life is and not to take things for granted. Everyday is a gift. I pray for safe return of all of our soldiers, thank you for all that you do.

Leap Year

Every four years and extra day is added to the month of February, calling those years leap years. The 29th day of February is added as corrective measures due to the fact that the earth does not orbit around the sun in precisely 365 days.  This keeps the keep  the calendar year correctly in line with astronomical or seasonal year. If we did make such adjustment , the calendar would be off 24 whole days over 100 years.

Happy Birthday to all the Leaplings.  There is a 1 in 1,1461 chance of being born on February 29th. In common years, they usually celebrate their birthdays on February 28 or March 1. In some situations, March 1 is used as the birthday in a non-leap year since it is the day following February 28.

This year, February 29th will be recognized as Rare Disease Day. Counties all over the world are calling for more research into conditions that (affect both children and adults) have no known cure. For more information please visit http://www.rarediseaseday.org/.

Here are some more interesting facts about leap years.

Target-Funny

I love shopping at Target!
I always seem to leave that store with a shopping
cart full of items that fall into one of two categories.

"I really don't need but I Love It anyway."
or
"The deal was too good to pass up."

Here are some photos of my last trip at Target.

BrytonPick - Review

Maintain a Bright Smile After Every Meal

I recently had the opportunity to evaluate the new BrytonPick. I was eager to test a new product that could improve my dental health. Especially a product that could make flossing easier and less of a chore.

It is estimated that only 12% of the population flosses regularly. The primary excuses are that floss is not convenient or easy to use.  People rarely have time or the proper place to floss after busy meals.  They are just too busy. BrytonPick is a more portable and convenient solution.

BrytonPick  was designed, developed, and tested by dental professionals. It is a quick solution when there is no time or place to floss. It can also reduce bad breath and stimulates proper oral hygiene.
BrytonPick
Convenient & Portable
Go anywhere credit card size carry pouch
Reusable for 30 Days
Made from germ resistant stainless steel
Ultra Flexible & Thin as Floss
Reaches all interdental areas

I had to post this article when I saw it on Yahoo. I have very long hair and I am always looking for a new style. I will have to try them all and let you know how they came out. Three steps- that seems easy. I fell in love the the triple knots.

Alex & Ani

A few years ago my love affair with  Alex & Ani  began. I was vacationing in Newport, RI when I spotted them on a friend's wrist. She had just purchased the single charm bracelets that same day.  She too had fallen in love with them instantly.
The more that I learned about the  Alex & Ani  company the more I became impressed. I not only love their jewelry and how it makes you feel, but also what they represent.

40 Days

Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.  I considered blogging about my journey as a Catholic, fasting over the next 40 days. Including my struggles and missteps along the way. I concluded that too much emphases could be on things negative or possibly send the wrong message overall.
A better way document the next 40 days is to focus on all things positive. Sending out love, joy, inspiration, and happiness for you to receive it. Highlighting the beautiful people, volunteers, companies, and organizations that make a difference in this world. By the end of Lent our lives will be more enriched by these messages than hearing about me eating meat on a Friday by mistake.

Review- An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo

An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo

Review- An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo

(Full Color eBook)

Twenty-Six Letters of the Alphabet, Twenty-Six Animals, Twenty-Six Limerick PoemsBy Jeannette RamirezIllustrated by AIC College of Design

Sometimes it can be challenging to find material that is both entertaining and educational for our children or students. I felt that my dreams had been answered when my family and I had the honor of reading  AnAlphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo by Jeannette Ramirez.   My child's excitement about this book has only amplified over the days we have spent reading it and coloring the pictures from the An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo Coloring Book.
The illustrations are very nice and the colors are bright and bold. Perfect for children.  My child loved reading the book on the computer since we do not have a Kindle, Nook, or tablet. We will be purchasing one when they become available in color option. Downloading and navigation of the ebook to was done by my child with very little assistance.
The limerick poems are adorable and educational. Plenty of information is learned in just 26 short poems. Here is the entry about the snake:

A carnivorous reptile ─the Snake
Will often spew venom and take
Mammals, birds, eggs, and fish
As their favorite dish,
Where they live in a tree or a lake.

My child also had fun reading the limericks, learning facts, and coloring the pictures. Most of the limericks have been memorized and are repeated frequently around the house.
As a parent of an early reader I highly recommend An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo to both parents and educators/teachers of pre-reader to elementary school aged children. This multifaceted educational resource is perfect for the home, classroom, home school setting, or anywhere you can take your tablet. Ramirez does an excellent job of using limericks to hold the attention span of young minds.

An Alphabet Trip to the Limerick Zoo is available on Kindles, Nooks, iPad tablets and eBooks.

You can see more about the book and to buy here: http://www.here-be-limerick-poems.com/an-alphabet-trip-to-the-limerick-zoo.html

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

No-Money Home Makeover Ideas

Some cute ideas for the right price.
I love rearranging and redecorating my home. Here are some of my  ideas that I love... all for free

  • Use Paint-You can transform a piece of furniture or a room with a coat of paint. Use what you have in the garage- mix 2 if you have to or add a little bit of white paint to change the color slightly.
  • Reuse Fabric- Re-purpose fabrics such as linens, napkins, and curtains. Cut and sew into new table clothes, pillows. etc..
  • Rearrange furniture- Change the flow of the room. Swap out for furniture in other rooms, you might be surprised on how good things look together.  Also try this with area rugs, artwork, lamps...anything else.
  • Declutter- Remove anything (especially furniture) that you don't use in a room. The space will seem larger.
  • Swap items with a friend or family member. Have a swap party and have your guests bring at least 6-10 items to swap.
  • Utilize sites such as  freecycle.Craigs List, your local newspaper for free items. You may have to clean or paint them but they are still free.
  • Display your collections- salt & pepper shakers, snow globes, anything looks better grouped and displayed together.
  • Re purpose rooms, furniture, fabrics, pictures, and everything else.
  • There are no rules. Just try it and let me know how it comes out. Have fun!

I'll be happy to adjust this list as we see fit. Just post your comments and I'll change this post. Have Fun!

1. Use the word party as a verb.

2. Shots.

3. Body shots.

4. Jell-O shots. Especially Jell-O shots.

7 Health Symptoms You Should Never Ignore

As a mother I usually put needs of others before my own. When our children are sick we do anything and everything to comfort them. But what happens when you are sick. The world to them and your home stops. Who is going to take care of you? This article contains a list of 7 symptoms that could be signals of bigger issues such as Acid reflux and Headaches. It is good to be familiar with these symptoms and speak with your doctor if you experience them.

How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did

How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did

It is unsettling the information companies have on you. Every store you shop at gives you a "rewards" card, this ensures they collect the maximum information about each of their shoppers. How often you shop and what your buying preferences are.  So what is more important? Your privacy or saving money? After all you do want to save money and it's free to sign up. So we compromise a little information to save some extra money. Who knows who will gain access to that information down the line and what that information will be used for. Maybe it will be used in deciding employment by future employers or to prove a case by trial lawyers. Scary isn't it. This one gets a Love It or NOT from me.

Every time you go shopping, you share intimate details about your consumption patterns with retailers. And many of those retailers are studying those details to figure out what you like, what you need, and which coupons are most likely to make you happy. Target, for example, has figured out how to data-mine its way into your womb, to figure out whether you have a baby on the way long before you need to start buying diapers. From the New York Times:

Valentine's Day By the Numbers...

Grammy Red Carpet Looks...

My favorite part of any awards show is the Red Carpet.
I enjoy the fashion more than the Movies, TV Shows, or Music that is being recognized. I love to see the gowns, jewelry, hairstyles and of course the celebrities. Shows such as E's Fashion Police recap the most memorable looks of the evening. I can't wait to see what they say about the fashion at the Grammys. What do you think?

Here are some of my favorite looks that walked the Red Carpet at last night's Grammy Awards.

Carrie Underwood  (I love the back of that dress), Adele, and Taylor Swift are on My Best Dressed List.

Iced T and Coco make my list as one
of the night's Best Dressed Couples
Some of the Worst of the Night!!??

Out of Nicki Minaj, Fergie, and Robyn? I pick Robyn as Worst Dressed

Worst Accessory Award goes to Sasha Gradiva

While Adam Levine looks HOT his date Anne V needed extra bikini
waxing sessions to wear that dress.Yikes!

Although there wasn't a ton of looks that I loved or didn't at this year's Grammys, I (as well as so many others) will remember it for coinciding with the loss of one of music's greatest voices, Whitney Houston. I grew up listening to Whitney Houston, singing her songs with my friends on the playground, and dancing along with her videos. What a voice!

Birthday Chronicle- Review

Birthday Chronicle- Review

Looking for a gift for the person who has everything? Looking for a gift that is fun and different?

Birthday ChronicleI recently ordered the Birthday Chronicle to give as a gift from Because I Tried It.  Originally I wasn't sure if I knew enough information about my friend (besides their name and birth date), but that was all they needed. I was also asked what I wanted the "Headline" to say: Example: Laura Anderson is 50! or Susie is 6! Or, I can have it default to what the major headline would be on this day. I didn't have anything in mind so I asked for the default headline. After inputting my personal information the order was complete. It was so quick and easy.
The next time I checked my email it was already there. Wow! I got it the same day, less than a few hours.
This Birthday Chronicle looks professional and very expensive. It is personalized throughout the whole page. Names and dates are incorporated into most of the stories or their headlines. Examples: Yankees Win 1978 World Series and by their next birthday they will have been alive for 12,419 days.
Other points of interest include United States President, World Headlines, Academy Award Winners, and more. All based upon the birth date of the recipient.

The Birthday Chronicle is a personalized (8 1/2 x 11) mini-newspaper front page, going back as far as January 1, 1900  up to December 31, 2010. It is a great gift or keepsake for any age, young or old. It is easy to order, arrives quick via email or they can frame it and send it as a gift. It is affordable, $2.00!!! Lastly, Because I Tried It donates money to various organizations from all orders that are sent via email.
because I tried it

Whitney Houston, Iconic Pop Star, Dies at 48

Whitney Houston, the iconic American singer whose battles with drugs, alcohol and ex-husband Bobby Brown marred her star power, has died.
She was 48.
Houston's publicist confirmed the singer's death to ABC News. Her cause and location of death are not yet known. Six police cars were spotted in front of the Beverly Hilton hotel today, where Houston is believed to have been staying.
