Elfishki and the Giant Cake an Educational Interactive iPad Book for Kids

Two of my favorite little girls were given an opportunity to try out an Elfishki and The Giant Cake educational interactive iPad app. Here is their short summary of Elfishki and The Giant Cake: Elfizz was an owner of a gloomy restaurant named Chest of Ghosts where the staff was eager to please ghosts. On the opposite side of the square was a bakery, Gingerbread Nook, run by a pretty plump Elfishki lady called Maggie. The two were at odds with each other until one day they had to work side by side...

Elfishki and The Giant Cake is part of a series of stories about magical little people called Elfishki. Although the Elfishkis had differences in opinions and ideas, there are no "bad" characters in any of the stories. Throughout the interactive story questions are asked to help children analyze the text, use their imagination, and make predictions about the story. Your child can read the story themselves or listen along with the text in either English or Russian. Elfishki and The Giant Cake contains bright colorful images, animations, and a game. The Decorate the Cake game allows children to create and save their own cake creations which can be decorated with either sweet candy treats or bats and sea creatures. The main goal of the Elfishki series is to teach children ages 5-9 conscious reading skills.

Ashley (4 years old)  and Emily (7 year old) were very excited to use this iPad app. They navigated through the story with ease while listened to the narrated story.  Although Ashley had a hard time following the story, it claimed Emily's full attention. I believe it is due to the differences in age and reading levels. Both girls loved the Decorate the Cake game and spent a long time creating cakes.

As a parent, I appreciate the focus on teaching children conscious reading skills, arts, music, and a creative approach to life in general. This iPad app could also be used in a school / home school setting for both boys and girls. The Elfishki and The Giant Cake educational interactive iPad app is beautifully written and makes reading with your child even more special and educational. I recommend this app for children ages 5-9 years old but younger children can still enjoy the Decorate the Cake game.
