Is it Cold or Allergy Symptoms? - Children's Claritin Grape Chewables Review

As a mother, it is difficult to see little ones suffer from cold and allergy symptoms. You want to make them "all better" as soon as possible. Determining the cause of these symptoms can be difficult, since many symptoms overlap. At Claritin.com they offer a lot of information including  a chart (below) to help parents assess these symptoms more accurately.

Some of the similar symptoms between cold and allergies include:
  • watery eyes
  • runny, stuffy, or itchy nose
  • sneezing
  • coughing
  • fatigue
  • headaches

If your child's symptoms last for a 7 to 10 days, accompanied by a sore throat and/ or yellow-green mucus, it is a good indicator that your child has a cold. If you are still not sure or if the symptoms have lasted more than 10 days, you should check with your pediatrician.

My Story:
Roughly 20 percent of the population suffers from pollen allergies. This year is expected to be one of the worst seasons in 25 years. This is due to the unseasonably warm temperatures which have caused plants to begin their reproductive phase earlier than normal.

So just as the flowers started blooming my child's allergy symptoms began. Red watery eyes, an extremely runny and itchy nose, with bouts of sneezing and coughing that just wouldn't end. Days spent in bed instead of enjoying the warm weather outside. It was looking as if he was going to miss Easter this year.

Our child would rather "tough it out" before trying or taking a liquid or tablet of any flavor. We rely on negotiations and bribes to get even one dose in him. It is always a battle. A sample of Children'sClaritin Grape Chewables came in the mail just in time.

When I opened the package, I turned to my husband and asked "How did the Easter Bunny know that someone in the house isn't feeling well?" Then a little head peeked over the couch and asked to see the box. I informed him that Children's Claritin only needed to be taken once every day and it was grape flavored. I also showed him how small the tablets were and he took them out of my hand and chewed them. No fighting or bribing. By the next morning, my child was as good as new and enjoyed Easter with our family. Thanks to Children's Claritin!

  2. That is great that they have a chewable children's version. I suffer from allergies so I can only imagine how yucky it must be for a little one.
